Both John McCallum and Bill Graham yesterday whined in the House that the government's spending changes ('cuts' always makes it sound so painful, don't you think?) were 'mean-spirited'. Probably they came running to the House to whine since they are missing erstwhile Mother Hen Paul Martin. Anyway, they unwittingly revealed the difference between Liberals and Conservatives when it comes to government spending:
Conservatives believe government should do good. Liberals believe government should make people feel good.
To McCallum it doesn't matter if programs are achieving goals, or if they are even useful to begin with. No, if they make even one person feel better they must never be touched.
Vive la difference!
